A silver-toned Lorier Astra wristwatch styled in a flat-lay arrangement on a dark textured surface with a pen, sunglasses, cufflinks, and a drink nearby.

The Refined New Standard

The Astra is a statement of everyday elegance, made for those who go beyond the ordinary.

Background

Background

We wanted the Astra to be the watch on your wrist as you step into a space station wearing a finely tailored suit while The Blue Danube plays in the background. Until that happens, though, it's a way to bring Space Age elegance down to earth. It answers the question, "Why not look sharp every day?"

Because we now live in a more casual world, the impact of a dressier daily like the Astra is even greater. We can allude to the concept of la bella figura, embodying the conscious, everyday choice to bring a level of sophistication to the mundane.

A well-designed watch can be a shortcut. After all, once you choose to put an elevated piece on your wrist, it only makes sense to elevate everything else along with it. Eventually, you may find that elegance comes naturally—and for the better. As they say: look good, feel good, do good.

Design Notes

Design Notes

Daily watches are often plain on purpose, and accordingly, they tend to be bland. Our solution for the Astra is to bring in multidimensionality, taking advantage of how each element rests on a different visual plane.

The dial starts with a silver-white base that shimmers depending on the light. To keep the design clean and serene, the 60 minute/second indices on the outermost section are etched rather than printed. This allows light and shadow to indicate the time as it passes through the clear sapphire crystal. On top, we placed a grooved silver ring with glowing indices for every hour, evoking a planetary system. We left out the date window to keep the circle whole, hinting at an infinite cycle.

Accordingly, the hands act like elements in perpetual orbit, finished in faceted, mirror-polished silver, reminiscent of imagined spacecraft from the mid-century.

Size

Size

The Astra's 36mm case size may be considered small by contemporary standards, and admittedly, it may take your mind's eye an adjustment period if it isn't accustomed to vintage proportions. But we find there's a reason this was once the standard size for a fixed-bezel watch.

On larger wrists, it makes the watch look even more refined while remaining a handsome presence on smaller ones. After all, these dimensions came from an era when tailored clothing was the norm. The catch, if there is one, is that one's tastes must be equally classic.

The bracelet tapers from 20mm at the case to 16mm at the clasp. Though it is made entirely of solid stainless steel, its taper, combined with fully articulating links, allows it to mold comfortably to the wrist.

Fitting

Fitting

Standard on all of our bracelets is our quick-adjust clasp. It offers five microadjustment positions (each spaced 2mm apart), allowing for easy sizing without the need for tools while maintaining a sleek profile. Simply squeeze the tabs together and slide the clasp to find your ideal fit.
